Introduction to socat

The socat package provides a multipurpose relay tool.

First, fix building socat with OpenSSL-4.x:

patch -Np1 -i ../socat-1.8.1.3-openssl4_fixes-1.patch

Install socat by running the following commands:

./configure --prefix=/usr &&
make

To test the results, issue: make test.

Now, as the root user:

make install

If desired, install the documentation as the root user:

install -vDm644 EXAMPLES doc/*.{html,css} \
        -t /usr/share/doc/socat-1.8.1.3/

Installed Programs: filan, procan, socat (link to socat1), socat-broker.sh, socat-chain.sh, socat-mux.sh, and socat1

procan	is a helper utility for process analysis
socat	is the multipurpose relay
socat-broker.sh	is a shell script for performing group communications (aka brokering)
socat-chain.sh	is a (beta) shell script for building a chain of socat instances
socat-mux.sh	is a shell script for establishing many-to-one, one-to-all communications
